RECOMMENDED FOR: 12 – 18 YEAR OLDS
THEMES: THE HUMAN FACE OF CONFLICT; PACIFISM; PEER PRESSURE
SILENT SONG is a play is set during the time of the First World War, in the summer of 1915 and tells the story of two very different families and the difficulties they face when their personal beliefs are placed into direct conflict with the collective ideals.
It is a thought-provoking play with plenty of action, which looks specifically at pacifism during WWI, but a play which gives rise to many other topics of discussion such as personal choices, peer pressure and loyalty. The play is interactive so there will be plenty of participation from the students, some of whom will take on actual roles during the play and all the students will be encouraged to look at problem-solving from different perspectives.
After the performance, time permitting, there is an optional Q & A session for the students with the actors and the director /writer of the play.
We can also provide workshops or follow-up talks to further explore these themes.
Running Time: 60 minutes
